Mexicana joins oneworld Global Explorer round-the-world fare

13 de agosto de 2008

The networks of Mexicana and Click Mexicana will be available through oneworld's Global Explorer fare from 1 September, ahead of the airlines boarding the alliance next year - opening up even more of the globe to travellers planning round-the-world trips.

Global Explorer will be the only round-the-world fare offered by Mexicana and Click Mexicana until they become part of oneworld during 2009, when they will also offer the full range of the alliance's fares, services and benefits.

Global Explorer enables travel on all oneworld's existing ten members and their 20 or so affiliated carriers - plus selected airlines that are not part of oneworld, expanding the network covered by the fare further still.

Travellers using Global Explorer can fly with any oneworld airline and selected other carriers.  oneworld comprises ten of the biggest and best in the industry, all renowned for the quality of their customer service - American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, LAN, Malév Hungarian Airlines, Qantas and Royal Jordanian, with Mexicana from next year - and some 20 affiliated carriers, including LAN Argentina, LAN Ecuador, LAN Peru, China's Dragonair and South Africa's Comair.

With Global Explorer, they can also travel on Aer Lingus, Air Pacific, Gulf Air and, from 1 September, on Mexicana and Click Mexicana.  Flights carrying the Qantas code but operated by Air Niugini, Air Tahiti Nui, Air Vanuatu, Air Vietnam, Aircalin and South African Airways are included too.

Mexicana and Click Mexicana add another 20 destinations in Mexico and one in Canada (Edmonton) to the network covered by Global Explorer, which already covered some 700 destinations in around 150 countries in Africa, North and South America, Asia, Australasia and the South Pacific and Europe.

oneworld is the only alliance with a truly global network as the only airline grouping with any carriers based in South America, Australia or Asia's Middle East.

The alliance's carriers already serve some 15 destinations in Mexico and 110 throughout Latin America.  So, with Mexicana and Click Mexicana, Global Explorer will offer some 35 gateways in Mexico - and more than 130 throughout Latin America.

Global Explorer offers simple, flexible, and great value round-the-world travel for trips up to one year long.  Four versions are available.   For details, see below.

Global Explorer is one of two round-the-world fares offered by oneworld.  Its other round-the-world fare is oneworld Explorer.   This includes travel only on the alliances existing member airlines and affiliates.  Uniquely, prices are based on the number of continents visited, rather than on the distance flown.  oneworld is set to be the first in the travel industry to sell multi-airline round-the-world air fares on-line when it activates its on-line booking tool for oneworld Explorer in the coming weeks.

oneworld offers a wider range of alliance fares than any of its competitors.   For those who don't want to fly all around the world, these include Visit passes for each continent or multi-continent Circle fares.
